706 Home had their first tasting of 2016 Thursday night. As usual they had some nice wines, two of which are new to the Augusta market.
They featured a Merlot and a Chardonnay from Pink and Blue for Two, a label produced by Meadowcroft Wines in conjunction with Olivia Newton-John to support her Pink and Blue initiative to fight break and prostate cancer. A percentage from each bottle sold goes to cancer research.
And these wines were very good. About the time I took a sip of the Merlot I noticed “cigar box” as a notes description of the wine and at that moment I was sensing that aroma and taste like a cigar box. I’ve had wines with tobacco notes but not one that has that same smell you loved as a kid when you had a new cigar box to keep your treasures in.
The Chardonnay started off with a buttery, oaky mouthfeel then turned nicely crisp on the finish. I liked this chardonnay.

Live music was provided by Donna Jo and as usual the nibbles were fantastic. Unfortunately I stopped by just as things were starting. I look forward to their tastings because I see some of the old Ninth Street crowd there. Can’t wait until next time.
