Shane Davis performing at 706 Home

7 06 Home had another great Friday night tasting. Sharon, Elisabeth and Kerry presented some very nice wines and served quite the collection of nibbles. Live music featured Shane Davis.
The first two wines were very classic for the region (Italy and France). The reds were very nice but the Old Patch Red was fantastic so I bought a bottle (at the nice price of $12). The food was great as usual.
One thing that impressed me was the CorkPops bottle opener they were using. This uses low pressure gas cartridges to pop out the cork. It claims to be the “fastest way to open a bottle a wine.” Sharon and Elisabeth say they can’t keep them in the store ($19.99). One cartridge is supposed to open 60-80 bottle of wine. The model shown below comes in various colors. A model with a foil cutter is also available.

Here are the detailed wine notes:
Ca’ di Ponti Pinot Grigio 2014 | Italy
A fresh, dry and delicate wine with gentle floral and citrusy aromas. A classic Italian white wine that pairs well with white meats, fish or on its own. Website
Coteaux D’Aix-En-Provence Cuvee Alexandre Blanc 2014 | Provence, France
This is a class Rosé, her dress as a salmon pink and shiny finish. The nose is in the delicacy and charm, with notes of tart red berries such as strawberry adn raspberry, white fruit aroma with peach and pear that give way to the floral range with acacia and basswood. –from the provided tasting notes.
Valdehermoso Ribera de Douro 2014 | Ribera del Duero
A young red del Duero, full of fruit, freshness and character and a great value. It should be consumed young, in the first two years of bottling. No barrel aging, preferably enjoyed cool, accompanying snacks and cold cuts. This 100% ‘tinta del país’ (a local red grape to the region).–from the provided tasting notes. Website
Trentadue Old Patch Red Lot 39 2013 | Italy
Named for the original 1896 plantings on the Trentadue location, Old Patch Red been the all time favorite among Trentadue fans for over three decades. The 2013 Old Patch Red Lot 39 is predominately Zin blended with Petite Sirah, Carignane and Syrah, resulting in a very fruity yet complex Rhone-like wine. The wine has dark red color with intense black cherry aromas, blueberries and cherry cola as an immediate impression. With aeration nuances of ripe plums, vanilla, maple and cocoa are showing with a slight dose of oak and toast. On the mouth, the wine is fresh and juicy with youthful brightness, finishing long and fruity. This is a wine that will drink well with a variety of foods but it is also very enjoyable on it’s own. The 2013 Old Patch Red Lot 39 is delicious now but it will reward your patience with 2-3 years of aging. Website
