T here was a bit of wind but no rain yet from Hurricane Matthew but Roger said “Hunker down! It’s time for a Hurricane Tasting!” He appointed The Vineyard an official Wine Tasting Hurricane Shelter this weekend. After the navigating all the hurricane warnings Roger did have some nice wines including a 94 pointer.
I stopped by Friday afternoon. I was glad to see two Zins are on the tasting sheet. But one of the big draws was the recent release of Bogle’s Essentials Red for 2015. This is one of those wines you figure will be jammy but it’s really not. It features some great grapes, Old Vine Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. It’s got fruit but they are nice and dark and not jammy. Plus he had it on sale, $9.99 instead of its usual $11.99.
It’s a good wine but I really liked the Motto Unabashed Zinfandel and the Paris Valley Red Founder’s Blend.  And as usual the nibbles were good including a horseradish white cheddar. Yum.
Roger was also having a Hurricane Sale that goes until 8PM on Monday, the 10th, with 6 to 11 bottles at 10% discount and 12 or more at 15% off. Mixing a case is no problem. And all beer is 5% off and when you buy any beer bomber, you can purchase a 6 pack of Bell’s Oberon for just $5.

Bogle Essentials Red 2015 | California
This compelling blend of Old Vine Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah has created a ripe and mouthfilling wine. Richly textured fruit of dark berries and black plums is nuanced by the flavors of juniper and dried herbs. The juicy, jammy fruit is framed with spicy cedar and hints of pipe tobacco and cocoa as the American oak lingers through the aging of 12 long months. Luscious from start to finish, this wine is easy to drink, but impossible to forget. Share it with your friends tonight. Website
