I ‘ve been tearing apart my office looking for my tasting notes then I realized, Roger didn’t put any out and I took pix of all of the wines and took some notes on my phone. I wish I had that hour back. But I wish I could have the hour again at this tasting. I would sample them again. I really enjoyed this tasting.
The Smoking Loon Sauvignon Blanc was very nice. Why? Because I’m a bit tired of super grassy Sauv Blancs. This is not. I like the body and the ever slight sweet fruit on the start. And their Unoaked Chard was pretty nice as well. I have had Smoking Loon before but I don’t remember enjoying them this much. But then again I’ve tried their reds not their whites.
The other great part is the $7.99 price which is right where I want it.
The Unabashed Zin was very nice. And I would love to get one of the Hedges Red Mountain and cellar it for a few years. I’t nice now but it needs to open a bit. A few years might do it. They claim it can cellar for 25 years. Interesting. I think it shows it’s $29.99 roots so to speak.
And the food was pretty darn good especially the cheeses. The Aged Cheddar with Habenero and Chipotle was HOT. If you want to read about them go to OurDailyCheese.com.

Hedges Red Mountain 2011 |
Deep purple color, yet not opaque. A sense of finesse in the color which suggests liveliness on the palate. The mouth feel is angular, with grace and precision. The 2011 vintage produced a savory character in the wines, like that of fennel, salt, tar and steel. Highly integrated tannins, dusty in a sense, alongside protective acidity guarding against premature oxidation. This wine, like other Red Mountain AVA wines before, will develop beautifully for up to 25+ years with proper cellar- ing.
