Buddy Mix with sister Rose Marie Marshall
Buddy Mix with sister Rose Marie Marshall
I stopped by Friday afternoon and enjoyed a really nice tasting. The wines were very good. The Cooper & Thief Cellarmasters Bourbon Barrel Aged Red was fantastic. I’ll have more comments on the others in a bit. But every now and then something happens at a tasting that has nothing to do with wine or cheese, you meet someone who provides interesting conversation or opens your eyes to something you either don’t want to think about or have put off.
I met a gentleman from Cashers, North Carolina, who has found a way, or at least an attempt, to deal with the grief of his wife’s passing. His name is Buddy Mix. His wife, Ha (“River of Stars”) Nguyen Mix, died unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm. She had checked on her driver’s license that she wanted to be an organ donor. He was not prepared for what that checkmark meant. He has produced a book entitled Organ Donor Handbook to help educate others and to help cope with the very recent death… she died July 31, 2016.
He had stopped by with his sister Rose Marie Marshall and one of her friends. He asked if I would like to review one of his books, which he had just received that day. It’s a quick read, about 70 pages with the acknowledgments and foreword. It is already in its second edition. I predict this will be updated many times as Buddy deals with something that happened so recent. He presents questions that don’t have answers…yet.
I have more to say so stay tuned. But wanted to get this portion up at least. To obtain a copy visit his website at http://www.organdonorhandbook.net.

Others 2014 | France
92 Points Wine Advocate . Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and Mourvedre. Produced by Dave Phinney of Orin Swift Fame. Casas del Bosque Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 |
94 Points by James Suckling. Dense ruby red in color, on the nose this wine exhibits lifted notes of rum and raisin and dark chocolate with just a touch of spearmint. Venge Vineyards ‘Silencieux’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 | Napa Valley, California
94 Points Wine Advocate. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Silencieux is a cross-AVA blend from mountain benchland and valley floor vineyards. Beautiful, supple, velvety tannins caress the palate from this full-bodied, beautifully fruited wine with notes of blueberry, blackcurrant and spring flowers. The oak is pushed way to the background in this full-bodied, rather classic and quintessential 2014. It is charming and irresistible, but full and impressive.
