S eldom do you get to sample 5 wines from the same winery. What a great way to see how good a winery can be when you can compare a great selection of their offerings.
That’s what the Vineyard did in their weekend tasting when they presented 4 wines from the Old Soul Vineyards label. I guess it was a tree theme of sorts since Old Soul’s logo features an old leafless tree and the 5th wine OVZ is from Oak Ridge Winery in Lodi. Then I got to doing some research and it appears that Old Soul is from Oak Ridge even though they don’t mention it on the Old Soul website (but they do on the Oak Ridge website).
I’ve had OVZ before and like it. I’ve seen the Old Soul wines before but at a $14.99 price point it gets slightly above my cheap wine bastard price. But I was impressed enough that we bought a bottle of the Cab and a bottle of the Pinot. Of course it doesn’t hurt when your father-in-law bought it for you.
All five are from Lodi, home to Oak Ridge where they lay claim to being the oldest winery in Lodi.
The Chardonnay was nice and smooth. All of the reds were excellent. I really liked the Pinot Noir and the Cabernet Sauvignon (we bought a bottle of each). We stopped by Friday afternoon. Great time to chat and try some wines.

Old Soul Pinot Noir 2013 | Lodi, California
A perfect example of Lodi terroir, this Pinot expresses big fruit and ample richness for the varietal. The nose pops with lots of floral tones, cherry, raspberry and hints of blackberry. The blackberry notes, from the blended Zinfandel, gives this wine its distinct Lodi character. The palate is soft and round, with good weight for the varietal, yet still maintains the gentle acidity in the mid-palate that is distinctively Pinot.
