T his was the first of two Wagner tastings Roger is having over 2 weekends. Wagner Family wines make some of the most prestigious wines in California including Caymus.
This was not a tasting to miss. I stopped by on Friday. I liked all of these. I’ve had some Caymus (provided by someone else) before but had never some of the other wines from Wagner. Although some of these are from the parent company, Wagner Family Wines, some are from Family Wagner, meaning that a family member,  Joe Wagner,  the fifth generation winemaker has ventured out and made some great wines. The first 2 great Oregon wines are from his Elouan label. By the way, this was a great tasting considering the average price of these wines is $28.99.

Here are the detailed wine notes:
Elouan Rosé | Oregon
Please enjoy this wine very well chilled. Finished with a screwcap to preserve the crisp, clean aromas and tastes, it is a great choice for outdoor occasions: picnics, lunch on the patio, or enjoyed on its own as an aperitif. A gorgeous pale pink color with a copper hue. Ripe raspberry and strawberry aromas with hints of citrus. On entry, bright acidity enlivens the palate with firm red berry fruit flavors combined with tart, dried apricot and concentrated minerality. The mid-palate is rich and expansive with fresh acidity that carries flavors of freeze-dried berries and clementine rind through the long-lasting finish.
We think our Rosé pairs well with just about any food! We especially like it when served with Antipasti, Chicken Salads, or Grilled Salmon with Asparagus and Lemon Couscous.–From their Website Cost: $19.99
Elouan Pinot Noir 2014 | Oregon
This 2014 Elouan Pinot Noir is richer and more full bodied than what is typical of Oregon Pinot Noir, which generally is very lean. Bright ruby red in color. Ripe cranberry, sweet cinnamon and fresh cherry create an inviting bouquet, with a subtle earthiness. The palate shows texture and weight with firm acidity that carries the flavor through. The flavor profile shows red plum, bright cherry, minerality, dusty earth, and a hint of sweet tobacco, creating rustic layers of flavor with soft refined tannins.–From their Website Cost: $19.99
Conundrum White Blend 25th Anniversary |
Fresh fajitas. Relaxing before dinner. A night out for Thai or Vietnamese. Conundrum White goes with them all. Sourced from California’s premier winegrowing regions, this wine is both exotic and bright, a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscat Canelli and Viognier. It lures you in with scents of apricot, pear and honeysuckle, and if you’re paying attention, orange and lemon meringue pie. Initial sweetness is balanced by natural acidity, and we love the hint of oak that plays with flavors of peach, apple and citrus. The long finish will leave you longing for another glass.
Cost: $25.99
Conundrum Red Blend 25 Year Anniversary | Rutherford, California
We believe in being both serious and playful, and this wine fits the bill. A rich, dark red, it offers aromas of ripe berries and plums, warmed by a hint of cocoa. Dried fruit and the taste of chocolate-covered cherries come through on the palate, while a wisp of smokiness makes this wine – created from dark red varietals including Zinfandel and Petite Sirah – the perfect complement to grilled meats and full-flavored dishes. Tannins are rounded out by the ripeness of the berries for a texturous but smooth mouth feel. The finish makes us think of lingering at the end of a long evening and still not wanting to go home, with layers of rich flavor that teasingly trail off.–From their Website Cost: $25.99
Emmolo Sauvignon Blanc | Napa Valley, California
Light and soft-bodied, the 2013 vintage offers a firm acidity balanced with a stark, steely flavor. Aromas are fresh and clean, evoking the scent of early morning after a first rain, with a hint of honeysuckle and underlying notes of tangerine and wet stone. The wine enters the palate with a crisp yet soft quality, flowing into flavors of flower blossom and ending with a mouthwatering finish of fresh-squeezed grapefruit. A long-lasting, zesty minerality leaves the sensation of both subtlety and brightness.–From their Website Cost: $21.99
Emmolo Merlot | Napa Valley, California
My goal for this wine was to create a well-balanced Merlot with superbly rich fruit, soft tannins and dark color. This first release exhibits aromas of mahogany smoke, leather and brown spice, while earthy flavors intertwine with caramelized plum and smooth tannins reminiscent of ground cocoa.-Jenny Wagner, Winemakerd–From their Website Cost: $59.99

Belle Glos Dairyman Pinot Noir: $54.99
