R oger called this a “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina! tasting.” I enjoyed this when I stopped by on Friday afternoon.
It was good to see some old friends at this tasting. Most of the reds had some mineral notes to them but since many of these wines come from very rocky soils in Argentina that is to be expected. The Pinot Gris had more flavor than most Pinot Gris I’ve had lately.
I enjoyed the wines but to be honest. I lost my tasting notes. Bummer. Because there were a few I wanted to praise. If I find them I’ll update this.

Colomé Torrontés |
Torrontés is the signature white wine of Argentina. It reaches its peak in the Calchaquí Valley thanks to the special microclimate. At Colomé, we look for a delicate, elegant, and distinguished interpretation of this variety. The grapes come mainly from our La Brava Estate in Cafayate, at 1,700 masl, which is considered the optimum elevation for this variety. Website
Cost: $15.99
Ricardo Santos Malbec | Argentina
This exceptional wine is from the single vineyard La Madras, on the slopes of the Andes Mountains in Argentina at an altitude of 2,800 feet, allowing for a temperate Continental climate. Grapes are harvested and selected by hand, gently pressed, and only the first pressed juice used. The wine is then aged in French and American oak for six months. TheMalbec is a striking deep, brilliant purple color. The nose is ripe and full, reminiscent of dark cherries, plums, and chocolate with undertones of loam and earth. In the mouth, the wine displays a profound core of ripe, blackberry jam fruit, lengthening into a sophisticated weighty finish coupled with an elegant silkiness. This is a rich and complex Malbec with an outstanding elegance and good structure. It is often referred to as “a Malbec for grown-ups.” Website

We strive to create a leading Argentine blend, from our best vineyard lots and barrels. Very concentrated, complex, and well-balanced. It also presents notes of mocha spices and jams. The palate is opulent and silky texture. Mature tannins, soft and structured palate. Round with a long and lingering aftertaste. Perfectly rounded and accompanied by a long, lingering and exuberant aftertaste. Website
El Enemigo Cabernet Franc |
Adrianna Catena grew up drinking Old-World Bordeaux with her father. She will never forget the first time dad got a shipment of wine from France, and opened a bottle of Cheval Blanc for her. Alejandro Vigil served Angelica Zapata Cabernet Franc at his wedding. It’s as if both Alejandro and Adrianna were born with a taste for the peppery aromas, grainy tannins and freshness of this variety. The winemaking is traditional Mendoza style.Alejandro brought old 100 year old Alsatian foudres(barrels) from Italy and had them re-toasted and reassembled in Mendoza. The gentleness of this wood, brings out the true character of cool climate cabernet franc.
