Smoking Loon Old Vine Zinfandel 2008
For the record, I hate Comcast. I pay them almost $200 each month and all I (and my neighbors) is pixelated TV shows and an internet that is costing me business. I’m currently running my home business off my iPhone via AT&T. That’s sad. I don’t want to switch to Knology because they are notoriously bad when providing internet service to Macs. I’m ready to switch to DSL.
Okay, I’ve had a sip of the wine I was sitting down to review and it has taken the edge off. Slightly. I was in the store today grabbing some bread when I saw Smoking Loon Old Vine Zin on sale. Heck yeah I stopped. Never mind that I reviewed the Campus Oaks Old Vine Zin last week. The cork has the quote “You knew that your night was just about to get a little bedda, not that Smoking Loon had graced you with his presence.” A little better after my frustrating Comcast experience for sure. Mrs. Dan really liked it at first sip because it was dry and very minerally. I would say a slate kind of dryness. I can’t say I’ve ever had a Zin this dry. It had the mouthfeel of a Pinot Noir. Giving it a chance to breath didn’t open it up at all. I also couldn’t find any foods that made it jump out. When I taste a minerally wine I automatically think “food wine.”
I had some Monterey Jack cheese, some sharp cheddar… none changed the taste of this wine one bit. So, I think it is a bit drier than I like. This could not be my everyday wine. It could for Mrs. Dan but since I’m doing more of the shopping now I win this argument. Not bad for the price I paid. If it was more than $10 I would pass for sure next time. For Mrs. Dan I give it 3 corks.
