I t was hot outside. And I was attending Day 5 of our Vacation Bible School. Well I took a quick break and stopped by Wine World and took a quick sample. Once again a 6 wine sample format is perfect if you have plenty of time or only a short amount.
I liked everything I tried. The Straphanger Chard was excellent and all three reds were great. Well, that’s about it. I got to head back to Vacation Bible School before they serve the ice cream.

Drops of Jupiter Red Blend | California
This fruit-forward, full-bodied red blend is the product of a collaboration between Jimmy Stafford of the rock band Train and winemaker James Foster at Concannon. It’s a Petite Sirah-based blend with soft, supple tannins and rich blackberry, boysenberry fruit. The wine is produced under the label of the Save Me San Francisco Wine Company (which makes donations to Family House Inc). (Their Chardonnay is named for another Train song “Calling All Angels,”) Give ’em credit for knowing where to go for really good Petite Sirah. Concannon is a first-rate PS producer (and the first California winery to produce a Petite Sirah as a separate varietal), This an affordable beauty with big fruit and beautiful flavors. Hearty dishes. Steaks, burgers. lamb kebobs, moussaka, ratatouille, grilled eggplant. Eggplant lasagna. Dark, dark chocolate cake. Aged Gouda. One of our very favorites!
