Third Thursday Tasting-Wine World-Feb. 18

D arn, the fiasco known as Riverwatch Parkway foiled my plans tonight. With traffic backing up in all directions I couldn’t guarantee getting to North Augusta and back to honor other commitments. I really wanted to try the Temptation Zinfandel and the Murphy-Goode The Fume. I’ve never had a bad wine from Murphy-Goode. Hopefully that mess will be fixed soon because Wine World has their Attack of the Clones seminar coming up on February 26.

Murphy-Goode The Fume Sauvignon Blanc 2014 | North Coast, California
Aromas of fresh lemon, juicy honeydew & sweet mango. Flavors of luscious papaya, yellow pear & ruby grapefruit. Most of the juice is stainless steel fermented; a small amount gets some Franch & some American oak to give the “fume” character. Chicken with mustard- thyme sauce. Banfi Centine Rosé | Tuscany, Italy
Inviting intense pick color. Berries, especially strawberry, with hints of sea salt. Citrus notes such as grapefruit. Grapes used are Sangiovese, Cabernet & Merlot. Flavors of ripe plum. Sweet round tannins. Notes of spice, clove. 80-90 year old vines. Fruit-bomb offers loads of strawberry and cherry fruit mixed with hints of earth, spice and pepper. Salentein Portillo Malbec 2013 | Valle de Uco,Mendoza, Argentina
This terrific bargain is estate-bottled made from hand-picked grapes by the highly regarded Bodegas Salentein, specialists in high quality Malbecs. Despite its easy price, this is a rich Malbec with tempting aromas of ripe black fruits, dark plums and blackberries. Its generous fruit flavors are soft and velvety with notes of spice.
