W ith only 4 days till Christmas what better place to get those last minutes gifts and toss in a wine tasting to boot. We stopped by around 6PM and many of the usual crowd was there. Nice time to sip and chat.
Enjoyed the Les Vignerons de Florensac Picpoul, Terlato Pinot Grigio and the Gouguenheim Extra Brut Rose of Malbec. The Terlato has some nice body that I seldom find in a Pinot Grigio. The Gouguenheim Extra Brut Rose of Malbec has lots of bubbles. If you like bubbles and something with more flavor for New Year’s this is your sparkler.
Over on the red table the Bonny Doon Clos de Gilroy Grenache was the closest Grenanche/Garnacha from California that has the minerality and flavors of a good Spanish Garnacha. The Coppola Director’s Cut Zinfandel was typical of this wine marker. A really nice Zin. Coppola always makes nice wines.
The Les Jamelles Cabernet Sauvignon is one few French cabs I’ve had this year. Firm tannins. This is an excellent food wine. I tried it with some of the cheeses, which featured Daneko Fontina, Cambozola (tripe cream camembert with gorgonzola blue cheese—very yummy) and Rembrandt Extra Aged Gouda (we bought some of this). Nice pairing with the wine and any of these.
Next up for Wine World will be their First Friday Tasting on January 5th. Great way to start the year.
