I stopped by Friday afternoon. I was on a mission. Pick up something for the weekend. Well that’s my excuse. I have always liked Peirano Estate wines. I looked over the tasting list and familiar names popped up. The Other White, The Other Red and The Unknown. I’ve had these at tastings and have actually purchased a few in the past.
I salute Roger for having 7 all from one winery and to have them at darn good prices. Four of them are in my price range. And I could splurge and buy the other 3 for a buck or two more.
Laurel and Ed arrived. They were at the very first tasting I attended when BottleReport started back in 2009. Laurel and I were debating which wines were best. But we both agreed that it wasn’t easy since all were good. The Malbec was a bit oaky and smokey. Maybe a bit musty. I’m okay with that flavor. As long as it doesn’t smell like grandma’s basement I’m okay.
The Six Clones Merlot has some nice spiciness to it. The Other had a hint of a cherry cola. I’m not saying it was sweet. The Unknown had a slightly different flavor with each sip. The oaky tannins changed each time.
The Old Vine Zin was the second good sign for me in a week. Roger had a 2014 Zin at last week’s tasting. I got into Zins in 2011. Loved them. Prices were low. Then 2011 hit. I wasn’t impressed with many of them. 2013 was slightly better. If this Zin is any indication I think I’ll be tasting more 2014 zins soon. This was a bit light, maybe a bit young. I think with time this will be a great zin. I doubt I could keep a bottle for any length of time. This is not their Immortal Zin which is also an old vine zin. Not sure if they are discontinuing that label or not or if this is the same style Zin with a new label.
Roger has special pricing for these wines. They usually sell for $15 but they will have all of them marked down to $8.99 to $11.99 till supplies last. Best part is you get to taste them this weekend to see if you like them before you purchase. Receive a 10% discount with a purchase of our featured wines & 15% discount off a mixed case of these wines.
