Mandolin Chardonnay, California, 2007

$9-11.

What:The key word for this nice wine is balance. Good acid and plenty of fruit combine to create a wine that just feels good in your mouth. Like many Central Coast Chardonnays it has intense tropical fruit, particularly pineapple, mixed with apricot and vanilla. The wine is barrel-fermented in French oak and aged for 12 months. Serve chilled.

The Winery:Founded in 2000 In Monterey County, Mandolin is a small winery with big ambitions. It creates good value wines known for their balance and finesse that bring out the varietal character. The winery is named for the mandolin, an instrument prized for its beautiful tone and great carrying power.

Goes with: Seafood, chicken, veal. We loved it with crab legs, with the acidity cutting nicely through the melted butter.
