S avannah River Chapter of the Tasters Guild held a Gold Medal tasting. They tasted 10 Gold Medal-winning wines from the Tasters Guild International Competition in Grand Rapids in April and the TG Wine Lovers Consumers Competition in Maryland in August.
The wines selected for the tasting are readily available and moderately priced.

It was conducted like  blind tasting. They tasted the wines without knowing the producer, only the  type or varietal and the price range. The tasters then got to see if they agreed with the judges.

All of the wines presented were award wines wines where they were judged in price categories, with the standards being higher for higher priced wines.
These wines won a medal in one or both of the two competitions.

After the wines were tasted the tasters had an opportunity to order the wines at a special discount. What they ordered is an indication of how well they tasted:

1. Lander Jenkins Cabernet Sauvignon (by far the most popular)
2. J Lohr Merlot Los Osos
3. tie-Chamisal Chard, J Lohr Chard, Concannon Crimson & Clover.

And folks enjoyed the cheeses: Camembert, Goat Cheese Montrachet with olive oil & walnuts, Gouda with Mediterranean Herbs.

Anyone who missed it…. really missed it.
