N othing like celebrating First Friday a day early. With the Fourth of July falling on Friday Wine World move it up a day for a First Thursday tasting.
With it being so dad-gum hot out there it was nice to try a group of wines that go nicely with the hot weather.
The Sauvion Vouvray was a nice start. The aromas prepared me for a light grassy wine but the flavor was nothing of the sort. Nice fruit, apple and pear flavors. I could sip this on a hot afternoon.
I very familiar with New Age White but I have to admit I seldom drink it as the slightly sweet blend that it is. I usually take a glass of crushed ice, squeeze a lime over it then pour New Age White over it. Tastes like a vodka tonic. A nice summer sipper either way.
If you like your Pinot Noir to be very light and dry then Underwood Pinot Noir is for you. The color is very light for a red wine and not dark at all.
The Castel “Legendary Roots” Malbec was interesting in that it had a quick rush of fruit then a mineral dryness took over then …… well nothing. I don’t think I’ve ever had a wine like this where there was practically no aftertaste. This would be an interesting wine to experiment pairings with.
And last but not least was the Hidden Crush Cabernet Sauvignon. A good middle of the road cab that would please just about anyone. Not over the top heavy but just about right for a hot summer day.
Next up for Wine World is the Third Thursday tasting on July 17. But also mark your calendar for a South American Wine Seminar they are having on July 18. Not to be missed.

Here are the detailed wine notes:
Sauvion Vouvray 2013 | Loire Valley,France
A beautiful Loire Valley Chenin Blanc with floral and mineral aromas. Its bright flavors suggest apple, white peach and lime with hints of ginger . Off-dry light and inviting. with a refreshing finish. Very versatile, pairs well with many foods. Great aperitif. Pairs with spicy oriental foods, with chicken curries, with creamy dishes, shrimp & crab dishes. Fruit salads. Matches lightly-sweet desserts, such as fruit tarts and pastries.
New Age White | Mendoza, Argentina
A fruity, slightly sweet blend of Torrontes and Sauvignon Blanc with a very slight effervescence. Fragrant tropical aromas. Flavors of honeydew melon, apricot and zesty citrus fruit. In Argentina New Age white is frequently served on ice with seltzer and a twist of lime. Spicy dishes. Appetizers. Chicken, seafood. (New Age is a label of Bodega Valentin Bianchi).
Segura Viudas Brut Rosé | Penedes, Spain
Charming strawberry aromas lead to flavors of tart cherry, red berry and nectarine, citrus. Crisp, dry and refreshing Traditional method sparkling wine (second fermentation in the bottle). Many accolades & “Best Buy”recommendations. One of our favorites! Perfect for summer. Goes well with everything from appetizers & salads to BBQ to lightly sweet fruit desserts.
Underwood Pinot Noir 2013 | Oregon
Forward, appealing flavors of cherry, raspberry & plum with an emphasis on tart strawberry fruit. There’s a lively flavor boost in mid-palate. Balanced tannins add interest in the fruit-filled finish. This wine delivers a lot of delicious flavor for the price. Sourced from several Oregon vineyards. A good match to grilled salmon.Tuna with fruit salsa. Grilled burgers. Mushrooms. Casual fare. Charcuterie plate of cured meats.
Castel “Legendary Roots” Malbec 2012 | Southern France
A delicious Malbec to enjoy and to compare with Argentine Malbecs. This Malbec is from the traditional French region which is home to “the black wine of Cahors.” Here’s a French Malbec that is fruity and accessible, a delightful match for grilled meats and vegetables. It’s the typical dark color. Its generous aromas & flavors of boysenberry, dark currants and dark chocolate lead to a long finish with notes of spice. (Vin de Pays du Comté Tolosan IGP)
Hidden Crush Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 | Central Coast, California
Aromas of cherry and black currant with layers of cedar, spice, coconut and vanilla. A medium-bodied wine with bright fruit flavors of red berries and spices. Full flavors and easy finish. Pair with red sauce pasta with sausage. Great with grilled burgers or steaks. Hearty beef pot roast. Cheeses. Perfect for summer celebrations. A crowd-pleaser.
