Hermine had just left town and and Downtown Augusta canceled First Friday but the faithful still dropped by Wine World Friday Night

H urricane Hermine finished her visit around 6. Downtown Augusta decided to forgo First Friday. Thankfully Wine World did not cancel their First Friday.
Groups started to show as the weather cleared. I asked several tasters what they liked for the evening and it seems the Luma Reserve Carmenére was a hit. Chela, Jonathan and Sally all liked it. “Tasting different” was one response and I have to admit this wine has some body and flavors that took some head scratching. “Pepper flavor” was a comment that everyone started to agree on but it wasn’t that “peppery flavor” most think about, like black pepper or white pepper. They were leaning toward a more earthy pepper, like green bell pepper.
I scratched my head to join the debate and yes, there was a bit of green bell pepper, on both the nose and the palate. “A curry dish would go great with this.” I liked this wine. But that’s not the one I bought as the way out of the door.
As I have commented the last few tastings I’m glad to see 2014 Zins coming in. The Hayes Valley Zinfandel 2014 is one of the smokiest, oaky zins I’ve ever had. I had to take home a bottle.
I liked the Villa Rosa Moscato D’Asti 2015 especially when pairing it up with the Mango and Ginger White Stilton cheese they were sampling tonight. Nice match up. They also had the Creamy Danish Havarti and the Cotswald Pub Cheddar with onion and chives.
