[two_third_last]Event: The day before Sally and Dick Benjamin’s 50th wedding anniversary they celebrated with a First Friday wine tasting, with 6 great wines, 3 white and 3 reds. And some great cheese! As the tasters sampled the terrific array of wines, they took time out to congratulate Sally and Dick. They probably will be in the shop Saturday, so you’ll have another chance to congratulate them if you stop by.

Douglas Green The Beach House 2010
What: Wine World’s White Wine of the Month. Bright aromas of lemongrass, lime, and a hint of pear. Refreshing flavors of lime citrus, round fruit
with slight note of fig. Long, pleasing finish. A blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. A delight! Easy to drink.

– Terrific with tilapia sautéed in butter or grilled. Crab meat, sushi. Roast chicken. Tangy cheeses.
Year: 2010
What: Fermented and aged in 95% stainless steel and 5% new oak. Flavors of Asian pear and red apple. The finish is bright, clean, and smooth. Great on its own as an aperitif.

– Enjoy with seafood or chicken with a light cream sauce.

What: Aromas of stone fruit, peach blossoms and pear. Beautiful flavors of sweet, ripe peaches. Smooth texture with just a touch of spritz. Nice, bright acidity balances the sweet fruit. Crisp, clean finish. An outstanding Moscato, an outstanding bargain. A beautiful aperitif.

Goes with: A match for fruit salads, or dessert—by itself.
What: Here’s a “yummy” blend of of Syrah, Zinfandel and Merlot. Delivers jammy fruit and smooth texture. Aromas of mocha, vanilla and spice lead to silky dark fruit flavors and a hint of chocolate. Low in tannins, rich in mouthfeel. Simple but enjoyable.

Silvio Grosso Dolcetto d’Alba 2009
What: Wine World’s Red Wine of the Month. Beautiful aromas of full fruit with notes of plum, spice, minerals and almond. A traditional classic artisan wine: 100% Dolcetto fruit from 30-year-old vines from one of Piedmont’s best family-owned producers. (89 pts, Wine Advocate). Flavors of strawberry and cherry are round, fresh and balanced with hints of minerality and almond. Excellent food wine.

Goes with: Highly seasoned chicken dishes, pastas, pizza. Steaks and burgers. Manchego.
What: A Syrah-dominated blend of 54% Syrah and 46% Cabernet Sauvignon. Lots of fruit. Fresh red berry aromas and flavors. Pleasant and easy. Fruity, but not sweet. Lingering fruit-filled finish. A charming blueberry and spice nose, with a soft core and good acidity. Great value.
