I really enjoyed Wine World’s First Friday tasting at Wine World. I found the strong>Finca Venta Don Quijote Verdejo an excellent white that I would love to serve with some seafood. I also liked the Primal Roots Red Blend and the Carnivor. But then again I tend to lean toward nice jammy blend or Cab.

Here are the detailed wine notes:
Finca Venta Don Quijote Verdejo 2012 | La Mancha, Spain
This delightful Spanish white is lightly herbal with citrus and pear aspects. It also suggests floral and mineral notes, white peaches and honey. This Verdejo is flavorful and zesty with a fresh, crisp finish. The Verdejo grape is becoming better know among American consumers. This Don Quijote version is a fine example and an inexpensive introduction to Verdejo. Perfect for seafood and fresh fish. Herbed chicken. Cold zucchini soup tangy cheeses. Broccoli or spinach salads. Cablanca Gouda. Manchego. Appetizers.
Clean Slate Riesling 2012 | Mosel, Germany
Pleasing aromas of ripe granny smith apple, pear, and spice. Lightly sweet flavors of peach, honeydew melon, pear with lime notes and minerality. Refreshing acidity with a lingering finish. Thin slate stones in the vineyard retain heat and reflect them towards the vines to ripen the grapes and provide subtle mineral flavors. A good match with spicy foods and Asian cuisine. Shrimp. Traditional German dishes such as bratwurst, knockwurst, and weisswurst, esp. with sauerkraut or red cabbage. Cajun. Shrimp and grits. Link to their website: Clean Slate
Chateau du Donjon Rosé 2012 | Minervois, France
A beautiful dry rosé. Generous aromas of dark fruit with strawberry & raspberry notes. Rich flavors of blackberry and cherry flavors. Refreshing finish. 30% Syrah, 30% Cinsult, 40% Grenache. Good match for robust cheeses, grilled vegetables and meats. Rich poultry, duck. Good match for almost everything. An exceptionally good value. Link to their website: Chateau du Donjon
Diseno Malbec 2012 | Mendoza, Argentina
This robust Malbec shows cherry aromas with notes of thyme, lavender and violets. It delivers rich fruit of tangy raspberry, pomegranate & blueberry with hints of licorice and dark chocolate. Medium tannins give structure. Good match for burgers, steak with Chimichurri sauce, lasagna with sausage. Great with braised meats. Roasted Teriyaki Ribs. Havarti with Dill.
Primal Roots Red Blend 2011 | California
Here’s a “yummy” blend of of Syrah, Zinfandel and Merlot. Delivers jammy fruit and smooth texture. Aromas of mocha, vanilla and spice lead to silky dark fruit flavors and a hint of chocolate. Low in tannins, easy, smooth finish. Rich in flavor and mouthfeel. Simple and enjoyable. BBQ. Spicy sausages. Slow-cooked pork shoulder. Mushrooms stuffed with Blue Castello spread. Burgers. BBQ. Gouda with Mediterranean Herbs. Simply Sipping. Link to their website: Primal Roots
Carnivor Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 | California
A big dark-fruit, jammy wine showing plum and dark berry fruit with spice & chocolate notes. Fairly prominent, yet nice, oak treatment. A “crowd-pleaser” at a very good value price. Steaks, burgers with avocado. Pork or beef stew. BBQ. Cotswold cheese. Link to their website: Carnivor
