Andrew Benjamin pours some Bonny Doon De Proprio Gravitas at the white table.

I ‘m glad I stopped by Wine World at 5PM because it started getting real busy. I don’t think the tasters coming in were disappointed. I really liked the whites. The Lapostolle Sauvignon Blanc is a nice wine that would be a welcoming white at a Christmas party and go nicely with the shrimp on the buffet table. Wine World has been featuring some very nice Sauvignon Blancs from South America. New Zealand better watch it.
I was surprised that I like the Caposaldol Sweet Pink Merlot Moscato because this is one of the sweetest Moscato’s I’ve ever tried. This is a nice dessert wine. Alone or with some holiday sweets at the end of a meal. As a starter I think the sweetness would be a distraction. But at the end of a meal, excellent.
On the red table I always enjoy the Federalist wines. This is the first time I’ve had the Zin that features George Washington on the label. I’ve had the other ZIn that features Alexander Hamilton on the label. I think this one is a bit more spicy and not as jammy as some zins are today.
The Renacer Punto Final Malbec is a nice Malbec that had more body that most Malbec’s I drink (which are usually in a box). I think I would enjoy this better with a nice steak.
I’m also familiar with the Oak Ridge OZV Red Blend. This is a wine I’ve enjoyed several times. This is a wine I have enjoyed with meals and by itself as I sit and discuss the state of the world with my wife. I like it’s zinfandel roots. It’s blended with Cabernet, Petit Sirah and Merlot. With it being a blend each vintage is different from the next. I look forward to each new year. And at $12.99 you can’t beat it.
The cheeses tonight included Cablanca (mild Dutch goat cheese), White Stilton with Mango and Ginger, and Point Reyes Original Blue. All were very yummy.
Wine World is busy the next few weeks. They have a Washington State Seminar next Friday, the 11th, Third Thursday on Dec. 16, then an “Attack of the Clones Seminar” on Dec. 18th.
