The Friday Afternoon crowd

R oger tried to take everyone to Argentina this weekend but he managed to sneak in a Carmenere and a cab from Chile. That’s okay because I am always on the look out for a good Carmenere which I would say this one was and the Cab was pretty good as well.
They were tasting New Age White served as a “Tincho”, the wine served cold with a twist of lime. They weren’t serving it over crushed ice like most do but it was still good. The New Age White by itself is slightly sweet and very refreshing. But if you serve it as a Tincho and it tastes like a vodka tonic. It is named after the childhood nickname of the winemaker. This is a very popular way of serving it in Buenos Aires. A great summer time drink which I will be reviewing soon.
I really liked the Felino Chardonnay . Obviously unoaked. Very nice hint of fruit. Very nice.
I liked the fruit on Amalaya Malbec but it was a bit acidic. Much nicer with some nibbles. The Legado Reserva Tres Uvas is a very interesting wine. The blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc makes it very appealing and at $12.99 I can afford it.
Didn’t get to try the Durty Gurl because they weren’t sure how to serve it. I stopped by early Friday evening. Maybe they figured out it by Saturday. He also had the Durty Gurl Olive Juice. That makes me wonder what the difference is between olive oil and olive juice. I guess I better go do a web search……. That was real useful. Basically most references say it sounds like “I love You” so it has a slang meaning. says it’s really just olive oil. Next time I need to look at the label.
Here’s the lineup for the Durty Gurl which I must add is a local product.

Here are the detailed wine notes:
New Age White 2015 | Austria
New Age White is a light yellow colored wine. It has vibrant, fruity and floral aromas of great intensity. Balanced acidity leads to soft, semi-sweet flavors. The slightly effervescent mouth feel makes this an extremely refreshing, vivacious and sensual wine leaving you wanting more.
Cost: $9.99
Felino Chardonnay 2015 | Mendoza, Argentina
A white gold chardonnay with delicate green hues. Tropical aromas unfold: white flowers, nectarine, passion fruit, and a touch of grilled pineapple. The palate reveals citrus tones of grapefruit, lemon grass and delicate lemon peel confit on the finish, complementing the vibrant aromatic profile. Texturally silky, with a well-integrated, lively acidity.
Cost: $19.99
Legado Reserva Tres Uvas 2013 |
Made from 40% Malbec, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc, this wine is made from the best lots of each varietal. The grapes are grown at 2500 feet of elevation in extremely rocky soil which means great drainage for the vines. The weather was very good before the harvest, allowing the grapes to achieve optimum ripeness, before being harvested by hand.
The ‘Tres Uvas’ refers to ‘three grapes’ in Spanish. Only the free-run juice is used and the grapes are macerated prior to and after fermentation to extract color and flavor. The wine is then aged fourteen months in French oak barrels. This is a wine not to be missed: if it were from Bordeaux, it would sell for at least twice the price. Great with red meats, especially off the grill, more robust cheeses, and game. Will improve by cellaring for at least 10 years.
Cost: $12.99
Santa Carolina Reserva de Familia Carmenere 2013 | Chile
This Carmenère has a deep purple with red hues colour. Its aromas are red and black fruit, coupled with a spicy character and a hint of soya sauce. On the palate it’s full-bodied, alluring balance between fruit and oak. Intense with velvety tannins, it is a complex wine with lingering finish. This wine has an aging potential of eight years.
Cost: $19.99
Amalaya Malbec 2016 |
Brilliant ruby color with violet edges. Strawberries, raspberries and ripe fruit with touch of pepper and spices aromas. In mouth, flavors of red fruit, spice and hints of vanilla from aging in French oak. Round, soft tannins lead to a delicate, lingering finish. Pair with mozzarella pie, potato omelette, meat baked with roasted vegetables, dried pasta with ragu, potato and meat pie, pizza, dark chocolate.
Cost: $17.99
Santa Carolina Reserva de Familia Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 | Chile
Deep and voluptuous violet. Classic notes of fresh cassis with hints of cacao. A hint of acidity to balance out its full body and weighty tannins. Pair with slow roasted beef, caramelized onions, barbecued lamb. Serve at a temperature of 18°C/64°F.
Cost: $19.99
