I havenʻt posted anything in a  while. Tonight, sitting on the deck, as the sun set, a nice cool breeze coming across the deck, Publix chimichurri chicken on the grill, a cold brew in my hand I decided to have a brew. A nice way to end the day.

I was ending it with a Dark Star Imperial Oatmeal Stout from Fremont Brewing out of Seattle. I was surprised to see a West Coast brew at Toast. I bought a single so I paid a lot more for this one brew. They have been keeping mostly to East Coast breweries, but this was a pleasant surprise. Had not heard of Fremont. With a motto of “Because Beer Matters” I thought it was worth a try.

I have to admit. I was tired after doing bunch of yard work. Iʻm working around a construction site of sorts. We are just now getting our fence replaced after Helene sent 5 trees belonging to neighbors across the fence in the back. Been hell trying to keep the dumb dogs from wandering around the neighborhood. Higgins has already been featured on Facebook by someone in the HOA who caught him in our front yard. What was supposed to be a 4-5 day project is now starting its third week. I digress.

I say I was tired because I didnʻt bother to pour any of this wonderful brew into a glass so I could see the color. I have to imagine it was very dark brown. Tasted very dark brown. Smooth but not overly mushy. Meaning it was nice and creamy but not so much that it stopped feeling like a beer. Got some hops in there to tame it. Not overly sweet. Nice malt with a hint of oatmeal dryness. Was great cold and was great as it warmed up. Chocolate and coffee… more on the chocolate side. I was surprised to see it has a IBU of 50. Seems much less that than.

At 8.0% it made me happy as I sampled the chicken.

Here is what their website says:

Color: Deep black
Aroma: Roasted coffee, toast, baking chocolate, dried fruits and warming spices
Flavor: Moderate sweetness and bitterness with slight acidity and umami in a thick body with smooth, coating carbonation.

Glad this beer is available year round. Made the sunset that much better.
